I would like to present you with something my girlfriend Jess and I have been working on for a number of days now. It is honestly one of the first projects I’ve ever done with a wood burner.
I picked up a night stand and dresser from Ikea (TARVA series). Assembled them using extra dowels and very strong wood glue in addition to the usual fasteners that come with the projects. They are much more sturdy now. I wanted something light color wood to open the feeling of the room, and contrast well with the wood burning.
Now, believe me when I say I understand my runic grammar and spelling may not be spot on. I do not claim to be fluent, but this is the project that I wanted to do and this is my furniture. So please be kind with any mistakes or inaccuracies I may have. I will use my knowledge learned to make the dresser that much better. (it is my next project)
On the side with the tent and moon, the border reads a favorite quote from the movie 13th Warrior:
"Lo there do I see my father, Lo there do I see my mother, my Sisters and my brothers, Lo there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning. Lo, they do call me, they bid me take my place in the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever."
On the side with the big star, the border reads a favorite excerpt from the song Evening Star by the band Tyr:
"When home is far behind and ever the long roads wind
I keep your memory in my mind, one day I’ll repay in kind
For so long as I’ve gone and so far I’ve wandered
The evening star has shone thus far”
Around the top edge are the name of Germanic deities, from left to front, right:
Odr, Var, Freyr, Nehalennia, Tyr, Hlin, Vili, Baldr, Odin, Thor, Loki, Freya, Heimdallr, Eir, Frigg, Hel, Sjofn
A note about Tyr, I intentionally mimicked the way the band spells it. (though the Teiwaz is right side up in my version)
A note about Freya and Freyr, I just caught I have Freya on there twice and will mend one of them to Freyr with an easy fix. Embarrassing.
The back reads: Yggdrasil (the world tree - a giant ash tree that links and shelters all the worlds)
The center of top of the stand is the Ægishjálmur, an ancient protective talisman of the Norse.
The legs are adorned with leafless trees on all sides, below them are a single leaf from the trees of Oak, Ash, Aspen, Maple. In addition, the corners of the drawer are adorned in Ash leaves. Yggdrasil is an Ash tree.
Mjolnir is below the drawer.
Above and just inside the drawer on the middle shelf reads: Allfather guard us.
If anyone has any questions please send me a message. I hope you all enjoy this project as much as we do. Thank you for checking it out.
